About Tai Chi & Qigong (Tam Khi Thê) and Their Benefits
Tai Chi is a traditional Chinese martial art known for its slow, flowing movements and deep breathing techniques. It’s practised around the world not just for self-defence, but for its numerous health benefits — including improved balance, flexibility, and mental wellbeing.
Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) is a traditional Chinese practice that combines gentle movement, breath control, and meditation to cultivate and balance the body’s internal energy, known as qi (or chi).
It’s often described as a mind-body practice that helps improve physical health, reduce stress, and enhance mental clarity. Qigong is used in martial arts, medicine, and spiritual traditions, and it can be tailored for people of all ages and fitness levels.
Tâm Khi Thê is an ancient Vietnamese form of Qigong with roots in the Lê era (980–1009), developed by scholars of the traditional science Kinh Dịch. Its core principle is to harmonise Mind – Energy – Body, recognising that mental peace leads to physical health and energetic balance.
While both use slow, mindful movements and breath work, Tai Chi is more closely linked to martial arts and physical structure. Qigong (including Tam Thê) is broader in focus and often emphasises energy cultivation and inner stillness. Both complement each other and are often practised together.
Improved balance and coordination — reducing fall risk in older adults
Increased flexibility and muscle strength — especially in the legs and core
Better posture and body awareness
Enhanced heart and circulatory health
Pain relief — effective for arthritis, back pain, and fibromyalgia
Yes. The meditative, slow-paced nature of Tai Chi helps lower cortisol levels and soothe the nervous system. It’s also been shown to improve mood, reduce anxiety and depression, and support mental clarity and resilience.
Qi (also spelled Chi) is your vital life energy in traditional Chinese medicine. Qigong and Tai Chi aim to circulate and strengthen Qi through breath and movement, enhancing overall health, vitality, and emotional stability.
These practices are low-impact and adaptable, making them accessible for:

People recovering from injury or managing chronic conditions
Yes! No prior experience is needed. Beginners are welcome and will be guided step by step. The movements are simple, repetitive, and can be done at your own pace.
